How to manage blogging with a full-time Job // Blogtober Day 23

On the 23rd day of blogtober, the ghost in my attic gave to me, a list of ways to help to cope with work and blogging

So, I have been working for a little over six months now and life has been hectic, though once I turn off my work laptop I do not have to worry about finishing assignments and stuff however, the mental exhaustion from work is very similar to how I felt during exam weeks.

Due to that exhaustion, my creativity, reading and blogging have been suffering, due to a tried brain I find myself gravitating to watching just TV shows or YouTube videos as they do not use my brain capacity.

Though in July and a part of August I had found a kind of peace with my blogging and work and so I thought I could jot all of those points down for both you guys and myself and hopefully going forward they will help us keep in balancing and blogging

Have a posting scheduled

One thing I have found particularly very helpful in managing work and blogging is having a posting schedule, if you have an idea of which days and when you wanna post it becomes easier to plan out when to write your posts.

Personally I prefer posting 3 times a week Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays at around 9:30 -10:00 pm (expect in October, last two weeks of December and the first two weeks of January) and this really helps me ensure that I have to have posts scheduled and ready to go on those days, which in turn pushes me to work on them

Plan out your posts in advance

Back in July during a particular creative moment, I was able to jot down all the blog posts ideas I wanna post about in that month, which was pretty epic tbh and having that all pre-planned out really helped me as when I sat down to write I did not have to first think about what I wanted to write but just work on the content to put into those ideas.

Now this will definitely not happen all the time and there will be a lot of instances where you will be stumped for ideas, but do not stress as you can always skip a day of posting or go back to the tried and tested book memes, book tags and book reviews post to help you tackle a creative block problem.

Block a day/a particular time to write posts

This tip is pretty standard, you have to block a time on your calendar based on your preference to write out the posts you have planned for the month or at least a week.

You can write for 30 mins a day, or block out a couple of hours at one particular day to do your writing, personally the latter option works for me now, as I like to block my Saturdays and Sundays for blogging.

Use your phone for proof reading

I write down all of my posts on my computer and I am not a person who likes to proofread write away so I tend to wait and then forget which is very evident in my pervious years posts but this year I have started to proofread on my phone and it has been a game changer as spelling and grammatical mistakes can be edited easily on a phone and along with that I can even do it, in the few minutes of free time I have in my office hours.

Be kind to yourself and Take Breaks

In our strive for perfection we tend to be very hard on ourselves and push ourselves to be productive often forgetting that we are humans and that humans get tired and sometimes we just don’t wanna do something because our mood isn’t right or any number of reasons.

It is okay to miss a few days of posting because ultimately pushing yourself will lead to burnout and will make you hate your blog and other creative outlets so be kind to yourself and allow yourself to rest.

And take breaks regularly, go on a blogging hiatus at least one a year and make it at least a week long, allow yourself to rejuvenate it will help you get back into the swing of things

And in times of stress always remind yourself of what Harry Styles said and apply it to yourself as well “Treat People with Kindness

I’m not juggling blogging with a full-time job yet (but hopefully getting that full time job soon), but I’ve been feeling some creative burnout. Some days I feel super motivated, others just not, so I think these tips could be really useful for dealing with that too.

The part about taking a hiatus at least once a year and for at least a week… LOL. I’ve taken twice this year for two months with zero planning. And my second is still going on. I thought I was good at managing the two but oof August hit me and I was OUT. I need to get back to it slowly, and this post definitely helps 🙂

I’m glad it helped you out 😊
And I can relate, I have taken 3 hiatuses this year and am taking a two week long hiatus in November as well, I think sometimes it’s difficult to forget that we are humans and it’s okay to stumble and take a break sometimes
And like I mentioned in the blog, be kind to yourself, with like being so turbulent and unpredictable it’s hard to forgive ourselves for our stumbles but it’s okay to be kind to yourself 🤍

Type posts whenever you get time through phone or whatever device is available, it doesn’t have to be WP draft. Another thing that helps is blog hop whenever you have time, even if it’s just 5 min.

This is such a great post! I was so happy the one time I had a bunch of posts scheduled haha. The tip to take a break is such an important one. Even though I’m relatively new to the book blogging community, it seems like it can be easy to forget that it’s a hobby and meant to be enjoyable.

This couldn’t have come at a better time! I love your tips, especially the allowance of a hiatus. Sometimes we can forget to take breaks and that can lead to a slump, which feels a break against our will. If we allow ourselves time to recuperate, maybe slumps might be less likely or common.
