Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.
Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.
And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, comes the highly anticipated and jaw-dropping finale to The Folk of the Air trilogy.
Before I begin the review, let me scream a little bit so that I don’t fangirl in the review…
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO DAMN MUCH! THIS WRAPS UP THIS SERIES VERY WELL AND I WILL LIVE THE REST OF MY LIFE BELIEVING SOMETHING RELATED TO TWO CHARACTERS AND NO ONE-not even Holly Black-CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE! THIS IS WAAAAY TOO GOOD AND I LOVE IT WITH MY HEART AND SOUL.
Now, getting back to our regular review…sorry, I need to scream that.
“Come home and shout at me. Come home and fight with me. Come home and break my heart, if you must.”
Holly Black’s writing is really something I love, she is able to absorb you into her magical writing and world and I love that about her story.
“By you, I am forever undone.”
The plot of this book was everything I needed in my life and so much more.
I need to control my inner fangirl…breath Mehek…Breath
There is not much I can tell you without spoiling the story so I am gonna kept my review of the plot pretty short and crisp.
So, the plot, I will admit the first few chapters were a little slow but it is worth everything in the ending.
Holly Black throws a lot of twists a turn your way and you don’t see them coming and you are always left shook.
There are a lot of elements of romance in here as well and the way the character come together and the way the feeling are portrayed makes the entire two books worth slow burn worth it.
The last part of the book was something that was so damn emotional, like I was almost cried so many times because damn and the way this series wraps up is really great and satisfying-at least for me, and this is definitely making it’s way to my best books of 2020 list.
“I think of his riddle. How do people like us take off our armor?
One piece at a time.”
Being the third book in the series, there will be some spoilers for the character development, so be vary
Jude, she changes a lot, she is still a badass, morally grey, femme fetale and I love that but she is also more open to her own feelings and she comes into her powers and becomes the damn awesome.
Cardan, I can say the same thing for him. He starts off as a jerk and eventually matures and also comes into his power, the things he does in this book shows a lot of growth in his character and he is awesome
“I feel like a constellation of wounds, held together with string and stubbornness.”
Overall, this was a great book, it ended the awesome series very well and I loved everything that happened in this book.
“There is no banquet too abundant for a starving man.”
I would recommend this book and the entire series to people who love ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas or are looking for a good slow burn fae-human centered book
“Magic is seldom so convenient as to conform to our preferences.”
